Office 2007 Word Bug?

Anyone heard of this problem?

When using the "track changes" feature in Word 2007 there doesn't seem to be a way of accepting the changes once and for all. For example, changes are being tracked, then when finally happy one clicks on the "accept all changes" tab. Then all the changes made and comments disappear and the document looks "normal", so is saved as usual.

However, I'm finding when the document is re-opened, it is displayed with all the changes again being shown tracked! Is this a bug? - or is there another tab or method of ensureing once changes are accepted and the document saved, the changes that were made cannot ever be viewed again?

It's not a bug, accepting a change does not remove it. Which of course has embarrassed more then a few people who thought their comments were not visible to the next person (or entire office of people in group mailings)

I read the reference and the method to clear out all the edits is:

so accepting the changes, which is what I've always done, does get rid of the embedded edits.

What is described in this document is hiding comments/edits through turning off some of the "Show Markup" settings. If you turn off the display of edits, then the document will appear clean but others will see the comments if they turn the Markups back on.

I've opened several documents where I recently "Accept all changes" or went through and accepted each one and I can't make the comments show up again. So I've never seen OP's behavior.

OP, is this repeatable? Open a document, make a bunch of edits, and save it. Then re-open it, Accept All Changes, use the Prepare/Inspect Document funtion on the Office Button menu. If it says there are no Revisions, Versions, and Annotations, save it and open again. If the edit marks are still there, then I think you have a bug.

It's the comments that may be showing. Accepting or rejecting will get rid of that change, but I don't believe it removes any comments.

That is correct. Comments and tracked changes are 2 completely different things that have nothing to do with each other. Accepting, rejecting, or turning tracked changes off or on will have no effect whatsoever on comments (for good reason).

Also, once you enable Track Changes, this feature will stay enabled until you turn it off. Accepting and/or rejecting all changes does not turn off the Track Changes feature. If you want to turn off Track Changes, then you need to disable "Track Changes".

There's a great new feature in Office 2007 and later called the Document Inspector. You run this on a document before sending to a customer or other external party to look for tracked changes, comments, or other potentially embarrasing metadata that you wouldn't want to be seen externally.
