I am looking for a good way to remotely access my computers. I have used pc anywhere for years but looking for something more updated or user friendly. I want to connect from Asia and Europe to the USA. Suggestions??

I have been using the free version of Logmein. Very good and simple to set up and use.

What OS are your computers running?

I just use RDP to get to my computer at home. Free and easy. It should work fine for any recent Windows OS if you open TCP/3389 on your home router. It helps if your home IP rarely changes (I've had the same address for a few years now) but DDNS can help solve that issue depending on your router model.

Look at VNC - it's more or less freeware (maybe the latest version is pay for). It was originally developed at/by Bell Labs and there are a gazillion clients for it.

I use Logemein, love that it has clients for desktop, web, Android and iPhone.

+1

The logmein free edition is all I need for 99% of my remote needs.

The iPhone client is very pricey. NTRConnect is a freeware alternative for the iPhone/Windows. Recommended.

+1 I purchased the iPhone app too, even though it is was a bit expensive. I love it.

I learned about team viewier in this thread

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trave...-literate.html

It works really well.

As does many of the other products out there, I suggest trying a few and see which works best for you before you go.

If you're attaching to a Windows machine, you can just use the Remote Desktop viewer. You Windows version need to be 'Professional' or higher (not Home Premium).

I use this along with Hamachi VPN (very easy to set up).

Cheers,
Rick

+1000 for logmein. Free or paid it is really a great app, and as others have pointed out, very cross platform. Honestly, I have never had it fail and not allow me easy access to my systems and systems I help people with.

Here is an example of my latest use, using an IPAD (the paid client app) and a 7000 mile long internet cord!!

Yes, Logmein is really great and on the ipad it is a perfect remote access tool. Here is my story.

Parents were in Abu Dhabi at the moment. Of course connectivity and access were difficult, as well as the phone connectivity. So, on my moms laptop, I logmein’d from my ipad and was able to
A), setup a VPN,
B) get to a download site to download Skype,
C) create a ICS hotspot with the laptop that was connected to ethernet,
D) setup WEP
E) get her iphone setup via a skype to PC call from my home here in Menlo Park to her Laptop in Dubai (I actually was LMI’d and just did the dialing on her computer myself from HERE and she was connected via phone to ME HERE :-) ,
F) get her to see the laptop hotspot with her iphone, join the secured ICS network that had the VPN connection on it, setup skype on her iphone with my account, login and CALL ME BACK for free.

Now, she has full access, people can reach out, they can make calls etc. (which is sort of necessary at the moment, lots going on) all for free and easily just walking around their hotel room with the iphone.

I have to say, nearly 7000 miles away, my logmein connection to their computer in Abu Dhabi seemed no further away than it normally is in Chicago.

Awesome!

p.s. I recently did roughly the same thing from my ipad, on a UA PS FLIGHT across the country while at 30K feet. The logmein app is VERY well optimized for even somewhat fragile internet connections.

I actually used LogMeIn on Friday via GOGO in fight wifi from my iPad. I was able to login to my iMac in the office and also into the VM running on the iMac. I was then able to post a story on the companies Sharepoint intranet.

I like that it bypasses the VPN Secure ID token requirement, but of course I'm sure the security department does not.
