iPhone OS4

It's going to multitask ^

And they've nicked the best bits from the IPad.

Not sure if you've seen this interview with Steve Wozniak. http://www.newsweek.com/id/235567

What's your favorite phone?
The iPhone, because of the apps. By the way, I solved the problem of battery life and [the lack of] multitasking on the iPhone.

Really?
Yeah. I just have two iPhones, so if the battery runs down on the first one, I can use the other. And if I'm talking on one, I can use the other one to look something up. You would not believe how much use I get out of that.
I LOLed at his solution. Apple can double their sales if they can figure out a way to market this.

The update includes a mobile advertising platform called iAd that will be used to place adverts in applications made by third parties.

It's bad enough with ordinary Ads but to have somethign running that specicifally puts Ads on is rather an annoying idea

Given that most of the new features are IPad inspired is there any reason to get an IPad now?

I would say yes, mostly for the larger screen.

You are not going to get rid of the advertising (particular on free apps), but at least an advertising platform allows you get dropped back in the program where you started if you really want to click on the banner ad.

I'm wondering why they need three more months for the iPad version of the OS than they do for the iPhone/Touch version.

So it can debut with Version 2.0 of the iPad in the fall - the one with a camera, more storage, and lower price.

Given Apple's past it's more likely that they'd introduce OS4 first then a few months later bring out V2 of the uPad so they get two bites of the - ahem - apple from the Macolytes

iPhone OS4 looks great I kinda thought that it would support multitasking, and it wouldn't run on the original model, and be limited on the 3G.

Now to sit back and wait for the new hardware. (My feeling: A larger storage sized, slightly faster 3Gs, with little or no other improvement will launch around the time of OS4.)

they are two separate products with two separate release schedules. the ipad ships with version 3.2, but there's no 3.2 for the iphone/ipod touch.

3.2 already has some features that 4.0 for the iPhone will pick up such as Places and Faces in the photos apps. Fall is obviously a pretty large period of time so it could come as early as August/September or even up until late November/Dec. I slightly worry that Apple will group in the iPad product cycle with the iPod/iPod touch cycle which seems to be renewed in October just in time for the holidays. So if I buy a new iPad now it would be obsolete in less than 6 months. Though I think the delay has more to do with the two OSes are more different than it looks and Apple just needs some extra time to test out and refine the differences.

I'm sure the separate release model is just a temporary thing. Eventually they will merge.

Can't wait for multitasking. Luckily i picked up an iPhone 3gs last time, so it looks like os4 will be in my favor (or at least as i understand it).

Im also excited that a "double-tap" on the home button will now also allow third party app control. Makes Pandora that much better
