Best DVD to iPHONE/iPad Solution?
Any suggestions on what you have used to transfer dvds (or other movies on your computer) to iphone or ipad? I've tried a few software packages but the audio and video never seem to line up properly.

I use Handbrake to convert DVDs for my iPhone and have never had problems.

mac or pc? if you're using a mac, try mactheripper

Sorry, should have been more clear - PC!

Just to add. Use handbrake for Mac. Download the 32 bit version. Don't download the 64 bit version cause it will give you some problems.

64 bit works fine on my mbp running 10.6.1, in 64 bit mode. seems much faster

+1 From the Handbrake forums: Windows GUI Usage Guide First things first. Handbrake on the Windows Platform does NOT decrypt Commercial DVDs. Let me repeat this. It does NOT decrypt commercial DVDs. Third-party software is required for this part of the process. (e.g. AnyDVD, DVD43 or DVD Decryptor) (Note: Please note that these applications are not legal in many countries. You should consult the law in your own country before using these applications. We do not provide support for 3rd party applications!) |
Sorry to bring up an older thread, but for those that used Handbrake to convert videos, what settings were successful for you. I have tried several including some suggested on the handbrake site, but have not been able to copy the video files to the iPad, but can copy to my iPod classic w/ video (3rd generation). I can view the movies in either iTunes, Quicktime or VNC.
I am not converting DRM protected videos. Per Handbrake suggested settings were: Use Normal or High Profile Picture: Anamorphic: Loose Display Size 640X480 (trying to keep within more standard just to see if I can get it to work). Video Filters: Off on all settings Video H.264 (or MPEG-$ FFmpeg) FPS: Same as Source (import shows 23.976) Constant Quality 60.78% RF:20 Audio: Default: Automatic Subtitles: left as default Chapters: tried with and w/o chapters identified Advanced: left as default Resultant video is: Codec: avc1 Resolution 720X480 Display resolution 720X480 Frame rate: 14.982520 Audio Codec mp4a English Stereo Sample Rate: 48000 Hz |
I don't have an ipad but you might want to check out -
Apparently you can just use the Apple TV preset settings. http://lifehacker.com/5572037/handbr...ad-or-iphone-4 http://www.ioncannon.net/meta/1040/h...ake-or-ffmpeg/ Rich |
DVDFab 7.
Easy to use, rip to HDD and then to iPad/iPhone, or rep and convert directly from the disc. I've paid for it, but (in an odd but pleasant quirk) each update seems to reset the trial clock, and the updates come out faster than the trial clock runs, so trying it, even for a while, is a no-brainer. |
A quick bump
I'm still a bit confused about which of the free Mac OS DVD to iPad converters is best. Downloading Handbrake now. Any other suggestions/recommendations? Also, is it worth paying for a converter? There seem to be too many options online. I am not a heavy DVD viewer but am interested in something that is really easy to use. Thanks |
