iPhone Syncing Error... any advice?

Gang,

For the past two days, I have gotten the following error when trying to sync my iPhone: "iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later."

In addition, my purchased applications do not work. I tap on the icon... it starts to load them, and then resets to the main screen.

Any advice? Anyone else have this problem?

Have you tried manually resetting your iPhone?

Yep... that was one of my first steps

Uninstall iTunes, restart computer, reinstall iTunes.

Gotta love Apple software, don'cha???

Well, an update of sorts for anyone who might have the same issue.

IT is still unresolved. Actually took the laptop and iphone into the Apple store on Saturday. They got the same error with my phone and my test phone.

They are saying it must be a problem with Windows 7 software drivers.

So, still no working iPhone... I had restored... so none of my personal info on the phone.

Very frustrating.

I spent half an hour googling this issue - and it looks like an unsolved mystery. There are others that are experiencing the same problems, but nobody has ever found a 100% working solution. Something about a corrupt sync database :(

Yeah... my googling found no solutions... just lots of complaints.

Of course, since I restored my iphone per their request... I have no contact info or calendering on the phone right now... very frustrating.

Here is what I'd recommend - sync your desktop with Google, then sync Google calendar with your iPhone.

That is how I have it setup, as it means you are no longer required to do a wired sync.

Here is how to do it:

Step two is to sync Outlook with Google using their tool:

There IS a sync app that does contacts too, but that may only be for Google Apps:

https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gappssync

Of course -this all requires that you have a Gmail account.

Once setup, it'll work flawlessly, and you'll have online access to your calendar and two way syncing between the iPhone and Outlook, without the need for iTunes.

Good luck!

yeah, Google Sync is nice, but I've had a few issues with it being down recently.

I don't really know what is going on in the OPs case. It sounded like it was a sync issue, but he also restored his phone and lost contact info?

I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7 (x86) from XP and installed iTunes 9.1 (along with the MobileMe Control Panel - required). I'm using a jailbroken 3.1.2 3GS and everything works fine...

OP, did you install the required MobileMe Control Panel for iTunes 9.1? I wonder if the solution may be that simple.

Mr. Bean, I clicked to download Itunes 9.1 and assume it downloaded everything I needed. Am I missing something?

Perhaps - try installing the program from this link:

Yes, I already had that program... but tried downloading again.

No impact whatsoever in fixing the problem.

When did this problem start? After downloading a new App?

I had a problem with my iPad trying to get a new App to load. I had to back up the device, unauthorize the device in iTunes (which deletes your content on the device), delete the suspect app, authorize the device in iTunes, sync, download the app again and sync again. Then it worked.

No idea if any of this will help.

I remember it vividly.... :)

It happened the first time I tried to Sync after downloading Itunes 9.1 on March 30th.

Have not downloaded any new apps in months.

Thanks for posting this. I was doing it the old way, using the old google sync application on my pc, pushing my calendar and contacts to outlook, and then from outlook to my i* devices via itunes, which was a royal PITA, and the only reason I used outlook. This is much easier/simpler and gets itunes + outlook out of the path for me.

wharvey, can you use this method? If you can, it should solve your contacts/calendar/email sync problem for the short term, until apple admits/fixes their other problem.
