Not so impressed with battery charge retention. If you leave the K2 unused for two or three days, it's dead and needs to be gassed up.
. Also. the kindle battery works best if you recharge it before it gets too low - it does not have a memory issue so regular recharging is better than completely draining it. |

Yes I do! Great observation. Thanks for the insight.
Glad to help. Enjoy your Kindle and travel safe. |
The Kindle 2 price dropped to $189 last week, and today on woot.com (just acquired by Amazon) it was $149 (new, not a refurb). I snapped up one of the latter before they sold out, but it will probably appear again from time to time. Rumor has it that a new Kindle may be coming out in August.
The Kindle DX has dropped to $379 and now comes in 2 colors. Still, at that price I probably would pay a bit more for an iPad. |

Pros:
Whispernet download of the NY Times every morning is addictive. Reading a "newspaper" on the K2 is very different -- I'm more methodical, consume more of the NYT, sample more articles, and learn more than I ever did scanning the paper or web editions. Until the K2 I would read the NYT on Blackberry every morning using the overnight email billboard as a main menu, but I've given that up for good. Cons: It'll never make more financial sense to own a Kindle than just keep buying books or newspapers. The NYT is expensive @ $14./month. Noticed fellow commuter reading NYT recently - I'm paying about $600/yr for NYT home delivery, read it daily during 70 minute commute to office. Since the 3G service is 'free' - can one set up email accounts, surf the internet (google news?)and read newspapers on the fly (without subscriptions)? Will same work overseas? Amazon site also mentions: New WebKit-Based Browser – Free 3G web browsing (experimental) - anyone know what this means? |

Sounds like you're after an iPad rather than a Kindle. The Kindle is a great book reader, with fantastic battery life. But don't expect anything else. Cheers, Rick |
Not interested in iPad plus another $20 per month to subscribe to lousy 3G network....with 30 day refund policy (confirmed on amazon.com discussion forum), plus other insights on the same forum board, going to order the new WiFi & 3g model.
