Intel hit with chipset design flaw in Sandy Bridge rollout

I will leave it to the forum members who are more knowledgeable than me to discuss the implications.

These problems are specific to the disk controller on the desktop chipsets for Sandy Bridge; they are not a problem for the mobile chipsets (although since laptops using the mobile chipsets are still in very limited quantities, it might be worth waiting to see if any other bugs are found.)

Rumor says availability will be better starting late Feb.

edited to add: strike that; it sounds like at least some laptop chipsets are effected, contrary to some of the initial reports.

Separate from that, Dell finally announced their lineup of Core 2011 laptops. Not much surprises in the larger business models (although some nice case-design refresh from the rather bulky E6400/6410/6500/6510) but more major redesign of the chassis on the 12" E6220 (replacing the E4200) and 13" E6320 (replacing the E4310.) Also a very sweet looking 13" tablet (XT3) which if the pricing is reasonable (given the XT2, it's unlikely to be) looks like a real winner.
