I picked up a Garmin on sale on Black Friday for use overseas for exactly this reason.

Ah, good point. I have an unlimited data plan in the US. To use my existing tools overseas (Blackberry and keychain GPS), I guess I need a BB map app that doesn't need to access the internet. Anyone have any suggestions?

The Nokia 5800 Navigation edition comes with free maps and updates. It also comes with lifetime voice navigation, walking navigation, and traffic updates--but I can't figure out if it's just for the country you register the phone in, or for any country in the world. Nokia Maps 3.0 is pretty slick.

I also installed Garmin XT last night, but I haven't had a chance to try it out.

The perk with both of these software is that you don't need a cell phone data plan to use them, although the phone's GPS will take a little longer to acquire a lock since it can't use A-GPS.
