Firefox 3.6 Beta - mini report

Installed today on W7 pro 64.

1) Much faster than 3.5.5 (subjective measurement).
2) New tabs now open by default as inserts after the current tab, not appended to the end of the list of tabs. Interestingly different when opening many tabs while reading FT. Doesn't seem to be any option to choose the old behavior.

Other than that, nothing obviously different.

be careful though, many plug-ins still not working on the 3.6 beta.

No problem. You can disable the compatibility check and run them. Should work fine in almost all cases. :p

Here's a link from Mozilla on how to disable compatibility check.

I still cannot get evernote to work with 3.6 beta and read it now continues to not sync.

I tried it for a couple of days on XP and on Win7. Seemed a little faster on XP with minor page rearrangements but 2 fav add-ons didnt work on Win7 so removed it on both this morning. Somewhere I read they updated the beta yesterday.

Actually, I fell off of it today - after a few hours, it seems to lose connectivity :(

Firefox 3.6 consuming a lot of CPU?

I upgraded to FF 3.6 earlier this week and it is regularly consuming >50% of CPU, even when I am not doing any "active" browsing. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Running Vista 64 with 4 GB ram. One thing of note: I usually have Wall Street Journal online active, which seems to update constantly, but FF still consumes a lot of resources even if I kill WSJ. I only have about 5 add-ons installed.

I'm running Win 7, with 8 gig. I've had some problems with it, but in checking my task manager, I don't see it using more than 1% most of the time.

On WinXP, consuming between 1-4% of CPU (and that's with everything going).

Have you tried disabling the plugins, and then re-enabling one by one? It is almost definitely related to one of them.

Follow this tip to revert to the old behavior of tabs opening at the end.

Did anyone else find with that the new persona's slowed down their browsing? It may just have been a coincidence but once I upgraded to this new version of firefox my browsing speed slowed to a crawl. The minute I switched off the persona's it speeded back up.

It is somewhat annoying

I have seen some slow down of page loading. I'm not sure if it's the new version of FF or something else. One weird thing with Win 7, is that when I have the auto updates on, it seems I got at least 3 days this week when I had a boatload of uploads to install (as you're closing it down).

I don't seem to really see any slow down on my old XP computer that I use for business.
