Does VZW offer dual radio phones with the GSM side unlocked?

Verizon has offered 2-3 BB "World Phones" over the past year, including the Storm 2. GSM was not unlocked on delivery but the code would be provided upon request, IIUC. There may also be phones on other platforms with the capability.

AFAIK, there is no Android world phone currently on offer; this is the platform's most glaring weakness, although a GSM-capable Droid with impressive specs is rumored to release in the Fall.

Few of the Android phones coming out lately have that....and a CDMA/GSM radio would seal the iPhone deal for me on Verizon (as much as I would like to go Android).

Other than the rumored Droid Pro, which other Android phones are CDMA/GSM capable and offered in the US?

Even if the iPhone were available today, I'd be happy to have the option but I'd stay with Android. That ship has sailed AFAIC.

Well, you can kiss Android goodbye. If the iPhone makes it to Verizon, the Android OS will lose all momentum, as it is going strong as people want to have a cool phone without having to go to AT&T's *&@%&%$$@# network

Too bad, I really enjoyed all the rivalry between the Android users and the fan boys, as competition is really the only way to keep innovation going, but who would want to, other than geeks like myself, to be messing with ROMS, overclocking you phone, changing kernels and all the other cool stuff you can do, to get an iphone, which is pretty stable , albeit a boring UI?

It was a nice run though, certainly made 2010 an interesting year to watch the smartphone battles

I don't know...

I have a jailbroken iPhone, and an Android phone.

If I had to only pick one phone, it would be Android over the iPhone. The iPhone's Steve Job's way or the highway really irritates me.

Android is evolving way faster than iPhone, with new phones / releases every few months. I just don't see iPhone able to keep up with Android in the future. Not with such a death grip on user interface from Apple, and the choice of a single hardware.

I hear this one a lot, and AT&T advertised the hell out of it, but I don't get it - I can talk and browse at the same time, but I never, ever do.

How many people really need data when they are on the phone? The lack of this does not make a phone "dumb" in my opinion.

different strokes (standards) for different folks, right, Scott? :D

They dont need to keep up with Android. They need to have a market and market place for app developers that will keep the apps flowing. That seems to only be increasing.

New Rumor: T-Mobile US Getting iPhone in Q3

According to Engadget:

According to Cult of Mac, a "highly placed source" at T-Mobile let it slip that they've got an 80 percent chance of getting the iPhone in Q3. Now, that's an oddly specific number, and we have no idea what it's contingent on, or how much exactly this source knows. Basically, we don't know a lot here. Of course, the biggest evidence of this possible T-Mobile coup remains the statement from Deutsche Telekom's CEO in March, saying that the USA branch is hoping to get the iPhone later this year.

I don't believe it. TMobile doesn't have near the 3G footprint or capacity of ATT, nor even the voice coverage of ATT, and ATT was beaten into submission by the iPhone's heavy data usage.

Unless TMobile is about to roll out some massive nationwide push for coverage and capacity, this is a rumor going nowhere. Also, TMO is heavily invested in HTC products and has a very close relationship with HTC, even having their US HQ adjacent in Bellevue WA.

TMO are actively pushing datacard/stick manufacturers to design products including Band IV so they obviously think their network's up to it.

I don't get it? Since TMO is heavy into HTC/Android products - all which run on 3G, why is it their network isn't being beaten in submission? I'm not familiar enough with Android but assume folks using it are also data driven, no?

TMO proximity to Bellevue means nothing - Costco and Amazon are also close by, as is Starbucks :)

I can't remember where I read it, but I do recall recently reading that the average Android user consumes more data than the average iPhone user (but the difference wasn't huge).

The proximity isn't accidental - it's on purpose to allow collaboration. I know someone on the inside.

I haven't looked at TMO's 3G coverage in awhile - but the last time I checked, it was a tiny fraction of ATT's and restricted to key urban markets. If that's changed, I'd have another look at TMO - the problem is, the current iPhone model does not support TMO's 3G frequency even if unlocked, so I can't test it in advance.
