This may be a new entry

Samsonite Short-Lite 2-Wheel Cabin Suitcase
55cm/21.6 inches and claiming to be 1,6kg.
We saw I believe the spinner version
http://www.susmaletas.com/en/samsoni...nner_55_cm.php
We went lightweight luggage shopping this afternoon at Galeries Lafayette. My friend picked this up in berry but it was snatched out of her hand by a tourist before we could fully assess the product. (The colour on the John Lewis link says violet, but I would say the colour we saw was definitely a purplish red berry colour) We did both think that the polyester material may be more subject to damage, but it is a nice looking bag which seems to be well below the average lightweight weight for that size. I am hoping to be able to do a better assessment once I can see it again; it was the only one in stock, and my friend was rueing the fact that she didn't snatch it back.
I also looked at the Lipault again, and again was not drawn to it mainly due to the lack of frame.
Then I looked at Monoprix and they had several low cost models in the 2,3-2,5kg range, as this is now a much more common weight in the light weight category.

I am extremely intrigued by that case. It does not appear to be sold in the US. I just googled and found a handful of European suppliers, but none in the US. Frustrating. This vendor shows it in gray as well as violet. This site will ship to the US but charges 120 euros to do so and does not rebate VAT. When I purchased from Koffers Direkt, I was charged 50 euros shipping and VAT was rebated.
And I agree with you re Lipault. I went in their Parisian store, and just didn't think the case would work well.
I have the sense that Europe is further ahead than the US in developing lightweight suitcases. I wonder if it is because of your airlines being more rigorous in enforcing carry on restrictions.

The Samsonites on sale at Galeries Lafayette usually have a big 'made in Europe' sticker and usually we don't have all the same products as in the US, although a German colleague and I both have the same Samonsite bag, one purchased in Germany, one in the US. I may have a chance to look at that bag again in London this week. I cannot find any reviews online and I do believe that it is a new product. It seems to come in both grey and berry, but I cannot find any other colours. It may be the newer model of a Samsonite which I found at MUC last year; I'm going to go back into the thread to see if it is similar. The price was 139,00 and we were hoping that the 3 day sale price would apply of 30 percent off, but apparently it was new stock so not on sale.
Note too that the spinner version is marked as less volume, but I haven't check all the sites to see if that is accurate.
I do tend to agree though that the number of lightweight bags is greater here due to airline restrictions, with even the cheap lines aiming at 2,6kg or less.
We looked at a lot today, including some Delsey duffle style roller ones (Delsey seems very popular in France) but that Samsonite was the only one which interested me.

I have never found the perfect carry-on case, so I finally designed my own. I'd love your input, flyertalkers. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...oved-travel-ca

I've added some photos of the Eagle Creek Load Warrior 22"
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/20552545-post32.html
It claims to be 5 lbs 13 oz and seems to be close to that from an imprecise weigh in on my bathroom scale. It isn't the lightest bag on this thread, by far, but it is available in the US, mostly conforms to US carry-on sizing rules, and seems like it'd survive being emergency checked.

Landor Hawa Sub 0 G
I bought the first generation of the Landor Hawa Sub 0 G in 2009 and reported on it at that time.
Positives:
Negatives:
The ease of lifting the bag is such a big benefit, I'll continue to try this on some more trips. But I'm disappointed that the manufacturer thought so little of product features that some very helpful ones were neglected.
Has anyone purchased the new generation who can comment on how it performs now? The pictures show a side handle, so that is one improvement. However, I've read the reviews on Hammacher Schlemmer and it appears many issues remain including the handle not locking in place.

I like to have a 20" case for 2 to 4 night trips, a 22" case for 5 to 7 night trips, and my old A Saks rolling duffle which is 22". It can be carried on but has a zipper expander. At that point, it becomes a checked bag. I use that case for 2 and 3 week trips. (Warning: it looks a bit sloppy as everything inside falls to the bottom. Thus, it functions better fully packed.)
I consider the John Lewis case a 20" case, though truly it is 22" due to the protruding wheels. I'd now like to find a very light weight 22" case which is lacking in my collection.

I was going to look at it more for me but thanks for the review. I thought that it may be one of the smaller ones when we saw it and it's interesting that it isn't really clear on the online reviews.
My non-travelling (ie one trip every 36-48 months) sister has been looking for a new suitcase and I've vetoed almost every single thing she's found. She was soooo excited today to find another entry: superlight, spinner, pretty colour. I was skeptical as she has a very different criteria than us, but it ended up being the new generation Landor Hawa Sub 0 G, and priced for under $100 USD equivalent for the 25 inch size. I've given her my approval and she is eager to purchase it, so I may take it for a test drive soon.
