Best luggage...

well, its time for me to buy a new luggage...
Whats the best luggage system? I need a system consisting of a bigger and a smaller luggage, ie a trolly combined with a hand luggage...
Which firm would you recommend (Tumi, Samsonite, ...) and which product line...

thx

Most people swear by TUMI or Hartmann. If your luggage gets damaged you send it back to them and they will fix it for free or fix it for a small charge.

I have owned Tumi, Hartmann and Briggs & Riley and they all seem to hold up well. Go to e-bay or Marshalls for deals. Or sign up on their web sites and wait for sales.

Samsonite varies so much on their line.

Lately, Swiss Army Victorinox has been doing well.

Atlantic, Travel Pro and Delsey are reliable, too.

I usually go for denier (strength of the fabric), color, size and design.

It appears a though "spinners" are all the rage now-a-days.

Have fun shopping!

For hold luggage, Delsey is impossible to beat.
Their hardshell 4-wheelers are a doddle to move around and essentially indestructible in terms of build quality
For cabin luggage....well, people have different opinions. However, unless you are particularly clumsy, I see no value to buying something expensive, as your rollaboard isn't that likely to be kicked around, fall from a large height and so on...I've kept my Samsonite for about 3 years- not that well-made, but it was cheap... I'd sooner buy another cheap rollaboard than have to mess about with warranties, sending the item for repair to exotic locations and waiting for weeks before it's sorted.

My whole family swears by Hartmann luggage. Their hold luggage is solid, easy to move, plenty of space. My primary hold bag is actually my dad's old Hartmann 42" hanging bag, and even at 7+ years old, it hardly shows any wear. The distinctive colors also come in handy too when picking your bag out of a sea of black.

All of my luggage purchases will be Hartmann bags.

My favorite luggage

I had always used Boyt Luggage. About four years ago, I finally decided to upgrade to luggage with wheels. (OK I am not an "early adopter") Boyt did not make a suitbag with wheels, so I tried Briggs & Riley. Sadly, not made is USA like the old Boyt, but neither is theirs anymore. I really like the Briggs stuff. Lots of features, cubbies, places to organize my stuff. I have a computer bag that slides over the handle of the suit bag. It have been very durable. I live in an RJ market, so the bags get tossed in the back all the time and have held up well. They claim a lifetime warranty. I can't tell you how that works because I have not needed it. So far, the bags have about 350 flights on them. I am pleased and would recommend them.

Everyone will have a favorite that they swear by.

Mine is Briggs & Riley. Took a two month vacation with my wife in November and December. Our 26" wheeled duffels survived being checked 17 times on various airlines with nary a scratch. The 20" carry-on fits in most overhead bins and since the handle mechanism was on the outside, we were able to stuff plenty on the inside.

Since that vacation we have taken an additional 6 trips thus far this year and it's still going strong. If there's a scratch or something breaks, we send it back to Briggs for repair with no questions asked.

What a great product. I've owned various brands over the years and Briggs has been the most durable.

How much did it cost you to send it over for repairs. A poster said it cost her $100 to send her Eagle Creek bag for repairs. I'd rather just get another bag.

Luggage

That is absolutely untrue about it costing that amount of money for repair of Eagle Creek luggage. I only had to pay to get my luggage to them and from then on everything was free including sending it back to me. They repaired a slit in the fabric and at my request reinforced the opposite side just in case it was caused by some kind of machine. This was last year.

Gosh I sounded nasty with that reply. I apologize. Someone certainly could have had a different experience than mine. They do have a lifetime guarantee though.

LouiseMC, how much did you pay for shipping your bag to Eagle Creek?

Shipping Luggage

The cost for my 30" bag was $40.43. This included the box which I had to purchase. I think the box was around $10. From what I have since learned, it is cheaper to go right to UPS rather than use one of the franchised stores. So, it could have been even cheaper if I had known then.
