travel insurance coverage for a flight I cancel and get airline credits, no refund
I am planning expensive foreign travel. If I end up having to cancel, say for illness, I have travel cancellation insurance from TravelGuard. My flights on United are non-refundable but they will give credits for future travel.
The TG policy does not say whether I can get my flight cost reimbursed if the airline offers me travel credits. Customer Service won't give a definitive answer. They say it is up to the claims department adjusters to decide after I file a claim. I did get one TG claims person who said that they will try to work out something with the airline to qualify me for a full reimbursement.
I'd like to hear from anyone who has actually experienced this and how it turned out.
