It should be permanent. They always mention if a product is temporarily and sometimes mention how many they will produce. This will be just a different color they'll use on a few products.

New Rimowa Hybrid in Steel Blue - not too impressed with this color as I much prefer the Navy Blue on my old Limbo.
I am hoping that Rimowa will release a Hybrid of 45L or 49L in size like they did with the Original aluminum.

Do we have enough years of data to compare Original (aluminum) and Hybrid (polycarbonate) with respect to durability?
What about weight? I am not known as an early adopter.

Aluminum is also heavier than polycarbonate.
Cannot overpack with aluminum and hope that the case will close by "force" like can be done sometime with polycarbonate.

From what I've seen online, the aluminum luggage is definitely more durable. Unfortunately the paint ends up peeling off on the polycarbonate over time.
Edited to remove info on zippers that the hybrid doesn't have 😅

Does it? I've had a poly for over 10years, and the paint is still good. Dings and dents sure, and it'll scratch, but hardly peeling off.

Somebody from flyertalk posted photos of theirs with peeling paint. Maybe it was an aluminum one? But it was pretty banged up too.

All I know, is that I saw a photo of a piece of Rimowa luggage that was pinkish/purple/reddish color and had peeling on the outside with other issues. It didn't exactly look like an aluminum one but could have been. It just put me off from buying any color ones. So that's why I have an aluminum one. It could have very well been a colored aluminum one, but for some reason I thought polycarbonate when I looked at it. If I'm able to find the photo on the flytalk forum I will post it here. I tried looking for it but couldn't find it yet. There was another rimowa thread I think it was posted in not this thread.

The aluminium can take incredible amount of abuse and damage and still can be repaired, whereas a broken sheet of PC is just a broken sheet of PC, even if it's formed as a luggage
Having said that, the young ones' PC luggage have held up for over a decade now.
As for the colours - the coloured aluminium ones I saw were "sand blown" types, so I don't think those can even peel off, but with any scratches, damages the original (natural) aluminum colour will shine through.
