Travel Insurance Q - "Common Carrier Delay"
Hi, we're trying to decide between two policies for an Antarctica cruise -- Axa Gold and Generali Standard. They're almost the same price, and Axa generally has better coverage/limits (e.g., 150% vs 125% for trip delay, 500K vs. 250K medical evac, 100K vs 50K medical expenses). The only thing that's bothering me is the "Hurricane & Weather" section when I compare them using SquareMouth:
For Axa: "Common carrier delay for 48 hours Accommodation made uninhabitable Must be purchased before storm is named"
For Generali: "Common carrier delay for any length of time Mandatory Evacuation conditionally covered Accommodation made uninhabitable conditionally covered"
How problematic is this 48 hour thing in the Axa policy? I don't really get what risk it's even covering, and I feel a little clueless. Is this covering the risk of bad weather delaying our flights from the US getting to Ushuaia such that we miss our cruise entirely? Or is it covering bad weather preventing the cruise from going? I don't have a handle on what exactly the risk is, and whether this 48 hour thing matters.
Thanks so much!
