Where to buy Rimowa in Munich and can I get VAT back? How?

Hi all,

I know that this has been discussed before but Iím not clear (new to the VAT process) and the threads are dated. Iím looking to buy a Rimowa in Munich and get VAT back. We are two people traveling to Spain from Munich this week, one with an Australian passport (with Spain residency in the passport) and the other with a UK passport. Are we eligible to get VAT back and where is best to buy the Rimowa (any suggestions?), in the city or at the airport?

Many thanks for the help in advance!

Yes, you are eligible for a VAT refund.

Assuming your final port of embarkation is Munich, before leaving the EU, then you can claim a VAT refund.

When shopping at the airport, then Lufthansa WorldShop (Terminal 2) is your only option for Lufthansa-branded RIMOWA.

If you want current generation or new-old stock, then heading into Munich is your best option.

Heading into Munich, you can go to the RIMOWA flagship retail store or attempt to find former authorized retailers who would be trying to clear their NOS inventory.

Lederwaren Hetzeneker used to be a great option for RIMOWA, as they would give you an additional discount if you paid in cash. However, I haven't been back to them since the new pricing structure and retail plan went into effect last fall.

Galeria Kaufhof is still an authorized distributor of RIMOWA, and use Global Blue as their tax refund service.

Best wishes on your purchase!

We're not leaving the EU however. We are flying from Munich to Spain (Palma is last stop). But we are British and Australian passport holders (the Australian has Spanish residence in his passport though. We have a third person flying from Munich to London who is also an Australian passport holder. Can any of us get VAT back?

Thanks for helping to clear this up

Nope. You can't get a VAT refund unless you (and the goods) are leaving the EU.

Do you have an e-mail address for Lederwaren Hetzeneker? I can't find a website for them. I would like to see if they are able to ship a case to Canada. Thanks!
