When crowdfunding works: Aroo Mini Bar

I travel for weeks, months a time so I put my very nice, super comfy Tempur Pedic pillow in a Ziploc Large spacebag, attached the Aroo adapter and then the bar itself and ran it for a while. Here's the result (I have two of these pillows):

Note the company for a while advertised 16cm, it's 26 cm as shipped, see the real product in https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/2365015 this video.

Company website: https://myaroo.com

For dummies like me who don't know, here's a link to the travel vacuum referenced above.

If the Aroo accidentally turns on while in your carryon, will it suck all the air from the cabin? Nature abhors a vacuum, you know.

(Pretty neat, actually.)

Just a heads up -- the final product is much bigger and heavier than the one shown in the video. I've yet to use it on a trip, but I am disappointed on the size.

Yes, I added that as a note under the photo but let me repeat: it's 26 cm / 10 inches long, you can see it https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/2365015 in this video or if that doesn't load properly, https://ksr-video.imgix.net/assets/0..._h264_high.mp4

Is the final weight still 116g/4 oz? The suction valve attachment seems to be semi-permanent as it is 3M VHB tape. Do you use packing cubes or roll/konmari fold stuff around the slightly uneven surface & valve?

No, it weighs 10.5 oz -- quite a bit heavier. The label says it is a 2500 mAh battery.

I wonder what the TSA agents thought it is when they see it thru the X-ray... a 10 inch long cylindrical battery operated device...

In keeping with Flyertalk indexing, we'll move this thread to Travel Products.

Thanks

They mentioned the addition of a second motor.

I ordered one, want to give it a try. Been waiting for something like this for a while - I am a big fan of vacuum bags but hate the manual pumps. I am slightly concerned with the way the adapter fits - bags don't tend to last forever.

Spare sticky rings are available and so are spare adapters. I got so quite a few spare rings maybe because I backed the Kickstarter. Not sure

Pacum released a similar vacuum & inflator which has a usb-c port. Reviews note that finding a compatible charger might be fiddly

Forgot to give feedback on this - the thing didn't have enough oomph to do much. Got better compression just squeezing out the air.I am back to my handheld pump which may be a bnit of work but does a good job.
