stretchy luggage covers

Has anyone got any opinions on those Stretchy/Spandex type luggage covers you see on eBay?

They look practical for several reasons ...
  • protect soft bags from picking up grime
  • prevent bags from flying open (an alternative to a strap)
  • very light
  • you can also pick a pattern that will be easier to spot your bag, especially if your bags are common colors (like mine)

Since they are not padded it doesn't give much impact/gouging protection, but my main concern is how long would spandex last (either tearing or the stitching).

Interesting item, I see that there are similar products on amazon as well.

I have not tried them yet, but probably will do so in the future. My main fear with checked luggage isn't damage to the bag itself or anything like that, but more so the chance of the bag losing its contents due to the luggage failing or TSA failing to properly re-secure it after inspection. I already use a luggage strap but something like this would provide additional peace of mind.

However, I'm also wondering how the checkin stickers (the slim ones that are used as backup/in addition to the usual tags that go around the handle) will stick to the material.

I doubt they will stick, but the checkin staff probably know about how to place them without them falling off ... or that could be just wishful thinking :-D
