If you aren't too hung up on thickness, a portable hard drive case would work. Such as: https://smile.amazon.com/Anti-shock-.../dp/B00SPHZP3M
There are plenty of others that are hard, but not aluminum, in the $7 to $12 range on Amazon. Just need to double check the internal dimensions, as a few I looked at were slightly smaller than a US passport.

The "Quality Storage Box" that his mouse ( http://a.co/eiXvqua ) comes in is where I keep mine while I'm not traveling. But it's a bit big for traveling with, unless you were willing to store some other stuff along with your passport. It's probably nicely sized to do dual duty and store your chargers and cables and maybe even a battery pack, but I'm not sure if that's workable for your use. Plus you have to buy a mouse to get it. I guess that would be OK if you need a mouse, but then again it's not a very good mouse either.

Curious. Passport booklets are standardized at 125 × 88 mm where 2.5" hard disks are 100 x 70 mm. I would be careful with ordering 2.5" holders for passports, make sure you can return it if it doesn't fit.
