Suggestions for some comfortable earplugs?

I have had nothing but bad experiences with earplugs from the drug stores. Does anyone here have any suggestions on where to get some earplugs that are comfortable for sleeping? It should easily fit into my ear.

Thanks!

Like you, I couldn't find earplugs I could manage for more than a few minutes.

Fortunately, I did find Moldex Comets 6420 http://amzn.to/2y752Dw.

Very comfortable, reusable and will last a long time if you take care of them. I can easily sleep in them. Not cheap but worth it.

Etymotic Research ER20 is a nice option.

I always feel uncomfortable, even the worse headaches when my flight takes off and the plane begins its ascent. These little earplugs work for me, bought from promopure, cheap and reusable a few times, and I use them before takeoff and landing.

I use wax or silicone ones and have found them excellent for comfort... I've never been able to sleep in reusable ones and have real trouble sleeping with air-conditioning units in my room which had always led to some very warm nights when abroad!

I've used these ones (with 4 or 5 nights use out of each pair):

And these ones (only 1 or 2 nights use):

I too have trouble with aircon noise...or anything similar....

I travel to compete in pistol shooting events however and have found that my "injection formed" shooting earplugs are comfortable enough to sleep with them in.

These are made by placing a small foam 'cork" fairly deep in the ear canal (with a very fine string for retrieval) and then injecting the thick liquid which hardens enough to be useable - but stays soft enough to be comfortable.....naturally taking the shape of your ear canal...

Audiologists can often do these...but they charge $$$$ If you ask around the local target shooting groups you will likely find someone who has set up to make them....and you'll save a bunch doing it that way...

They don't last forever...but a year or two is not unusual...

You can try Radians Custom Molded Earplugs from amazon. Around $10 and should be able to make two pairs.

Another inexpensive option to try: go to your local safety supply store and get a selection of ones that are available there. Try them and hopefully you’ll find some that work for you. Around here they cost from about $1 to $3 a pair.

My experience is that it is an individual thing. I have problems getting one to stay in my left ear. Also, make sure you are inserting them correctly - if they are foam, rolling them between your fingers to squish them, then pulling up on your ear while inserting them. My girlfriend likes the wax type ones, I have never tried them. Machinist friends swear but the custom made ones described above. What works for me are the cheap foam ones.

I like Hearos Ultimate Softness for sleeping and long term use. Much less pressure on the inside of my ear canal.

For riding motorcycles and sleeping, I personally use plain old Moldex uncorded foam plugs like you find in the dispenser on any factory floor, but I know a lot of people love the Comets.

Maybe try ordering a sampler pack from these guys:

I am super particular about earplug and these are my favorite:

https://www.hearos.com/collections/s...tection-series

There is a story behind these though. They made them the same way for at least a decade and then about 1.5 years ago switched to a different formula, perhaps another contract manufacturer.

They are now back to their "original" formula, which is not as good as the previous ones, but about 90% there. The way to tell the difference between the new originals/the "original originals" vs. the inferior ones is to pinch one tightly and it should take at least 5 seconds to start regaining the original shape if it's a good one. You can buy them on Amazon, Walgreens, and some other locations.

When the inferior new style came out (before they went back to the original formula), I even wrote the company and got a response that I was not the only one and that others were upset too. If you take a look at reviews on Amazon, Walgreens, and CVS at the time a bunch of people who rely on them nightly were quite upset. I would stop every time I saw a Walgreens and buy all that I could of the originals while they lasted on the rare occasion I could find some.

Fortunately the updated "originals" work well enough for me. One tip that I recommend though if you wake up in the middle of the night with ear pain from any foam ear plug is to take a really wet Q-Tip and gently moisten the inside of your ears then put the plugs back in. This tends to get me through the rest of the night.

Some cannot sleep with foam ear plugs at all and prefer wax or silicone which go in the outer ear, but the NRR is not usually as good, typically topping out at around 25dB while the best foam plugs can extend to about 33dB.

If the above don't work, you can try this sample pack, which I ordered while the Hearos were hard to find:

http://www.earplugstore.com/unfoamtrialp1.html

Believe it or not though, I couldn't find any in there that worked well for me, so am very thankful that the Hearos are back to useable condition. They say that each ear canal is like a fingerprint.

If you're really picky (I know that I am), I've heard that there are companies which will cast custom ear plugs for you, but I haven't researched this route.

Some other general sleep accessories I recommend is the Tempurpedic sleep mask, an organge LED for walking to a hotel bathroom at night, and orange tinted glasses like these:

https://www.amazon.com/Uvex-Blocking...+sleep+glasses

for if you're going to use a phone or computer within an hour before bed. Screen settings like Night Shift and flux are also very helpful. I use them in conjunction with the glasses.

This is probably a lot more detail than you were seeking, but I hope it is helpful to you! If you have any questions, feel free to ask as I have put years of thoughts, customization, and research into better sleep, as a periodic insomniac.

I used to use these:

and these:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-Orange...20DC/202080168

back when I needed earplugs to sleep. They're pretty easy to find and were much better than the crappy yellow ones I'd get from the local drug store.

From someone who's worn earplugs almost every night for over 40 years for sleep, these are my favorites.
