The ultimate airline backpack
Hello all-
I am on a quest for what I consider the ultimate backpack. This is something I would use for business travel and be able to accommodate a 15.6 laptop. I would also like it to fit under the underseat storage. Here's the kicker: I usually sit in the aisle seat, where we all know underseat storage is limited. I'm trying to limit spending to $350. I see Tumi has several great packs, but I can't get a straight answer on the 15.6 inch laptop, nor underseat storage. I would enjoy hearing people's experiences, especially frequent business travellers. I have an old briefcase, but I've seen some really nice and stylish backpacks. Thanks, Sammy |
Look at Everki Versa backpack. They hold any size laptop with a ton of storage. It will fit under the seat. I too am an aisle sitter so there is no problem there. It is well under the $300 mark, It is also checkpoint friendly. That was what sold me on the bag.

I wish to know the same info with the exception that I can spend up to $500.
Looking for something which can be taken on day hikes, as well, if it exists. Going to Alaska this summer and it would be very handy, to say the least. TIA - bo1953 |
My favorite travel backpack at the moment is the Goruck GR1

Thanks powerlifter. So fits under aisle and accomodated 15.6 inch laptop.
Is this the one: https://www.amazon.com/Everki-Checkp...Versa+backpack Thanks |

Im looking also for the perfect backpack.
At this moment the Tumi Lyons full-fills all my criteria. - dedicated laptop compartment - not too big - attachable to trolley handle - not too sporty or business Only price is a bit on the high side about 450 USD in Asia. |
Try the Red Oxx C-Ruck
http://www.redoxx.com/Backpacks-Dayp...54/160/Product or Roadster Mini Ruck http://www.redoxx.com/Backpacks-Dayp...82/160/Product These will both fit under and you can actually hold much more than you are looking for. Plus, they have that incredible warranty. Also consider a Tom Bihn Synapse 19: https://www.tombihn.com/collections/...nt=16396833543 |

Briggs and Riley Kinzie backpack. Laptop and tablet pocket make security easy, water bottle pocket, pockets for snacks/hard drives etc, pen loops and has a slip pocket so it slides over a suitcase handle, which was the selling point for me. I found the medium size holds more than the flapover version. Holds enough without being too big.

I like my Slicks backpack: https://slicks.com/gbp_en/backpacks.html

I like Osprey's Pixel pack - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019TQP6EU...ing=UTF8&psc=1 - I have the grey and white version, but it comes in black.
It's not TSA-friendly but I like the fact that the laptop compartment has its own side zipper, making it very quick to get it out and put back in the rest of the time. The bright green lining makes it easy to find stuff, and the laptop compartment has a second zippered protected pocket for a tablet. I've never had any trouble getting it under an airline seat and I'm also an aisle-sitter. For less demanding circumstances, the pack also has expansion zippers, so it's useful for overnight. The one issue I've found is that the pack's sides are not as waterproof as it could be, so I carry a big ziplock plastic bag in it just in case I get caught have to walk longer distances in a downpour (I also have a rain poncho which solves this problem). wg |
Northface Surge II. It's awesome.

Like powerlifter, I also have the Everki Versa backpack. Very professional and durable, ime. Caveat to fitting in the narrow aisle underseat spaces is that I have to take out my chargers, which I keep in the side pockets/compartments. If those are put into the main compartment, no issues fitting. With the charger in there, you'd need to jam it in there.
Straps may not be as comfortable if you're smaller/shorter - I'm 5'9" and wouldn't mind if I could tighten/shorten the straps another inch or so. It's also not what I'd consider a slim backpack, like the ebags backpack mentioned above. More akin to the standard business-y Tumi or B&R bags in terms of general shape/depth, although not as wide. Overall, good business backpack and I've been very happy with it the last 2+ years. EDIT I just checked with our personal 15.6" laptops. The 8 year old HP barely fits, but very snug and right when closing the zipper. The newer one is thinner and slightly smaller, but still a snug fit. However, it does fit. |
