I confirm that Schwab still pulls Equifax for credit check. There is no need to request ATM card; they order one automatically once you fund the checking account.
Another interesting feature, the checking account is automatically enrolled in overdraft protection against the cash in the brokerage account. And apparently there are no overdraft fees in this case.
On enrollment this month it took exactly one week from signing up to receiving the card in the mail.

Agreed, I've only had positive experiences with CS. Coupled with their new lower commissions, I've decided to move some funds into the brokerage account as well. I suppose they got what they wanted, in attracting more customers to their brokerage services by offering this.

I've been an account holder for about 5 years now and even made them my primary bank after all the good experience I've had. I do keep my foreign ATM receipts (or at least a photo of them) to make sure the ATM fee gets refunded. The few times it didn't automatically all it took was a very quick phone call to resolve. Their customer service is all US based and very friendly yet professional.

Do you mean for withdrawals from an ATM, or using it at a store as a VISA for a purchase?
They do not charge any fees for ATM withdrawal, and even refund the foreign bank/ATM fees at the end of each statement period.
They do charge a FTF for purchases made at a store, but you absolutely should never use a debit/ATM card for anything other than an ATM withdrawal.

Also, I wouldn't say never use one for purchases. One example is trying to use ticket machines in Europe, especially if one's credit cards have no PIN capability.

This card has worked very successfully on 5 continents re: ATM withdraws. I do have to remember to transfer funds to the account because funds from an external source take 3-5 business days to be available, IME.
That said, used this at a HSBC in Mexico last Sunday. Received a message on the screen regarding a currency conversion rate and a HSBC commission. Would I accept? I declined. (I jotted down the conversion rate - lost my note - and the commission was 5.5%.) I thought that the transaction would be canceled. It was not; I received the MXD. Checked my account yesterday; the ATM fee was already credited and the actual withdraw was within about 50 cents of the Bloomberg published conversion rate. FYI and beware of such messages...

They also just started rolling out contactless debit cards, got an email about it yesterday and upgraded via Schwab.com and should receive the new one by the end of week/beginning of next week. Sounds like they've heard feedback on people wanting contactless as much as possible in the current environment so appreciate the move.
