The Luggage Specs Thread
2 Attachment(s)
I just purchased a Salsa Air Ultralight and discovered a leaflet with the specs for the whole Salsa Air product range. So I thought, wouldn't it be awesome if there was a thread where we could compile similar info across luggage brands! I hope this is that thread. Please help this project by posting similar information about popular luggage lines/brands.
I also hope this information can help people identify their potential for luggage failure (i.e. over weight/under volume) before purchase. Thanks Everyone, TpacJV Salsa Air Specs (as of May 2016): |
This needs to be in a Google Spreadsheet so people can freely add rows. I am not worried about vandalism.

I'm only interested in REAL measurements, not just what the manufacture happens to say it measures. It seems there must be a "I measured bag XXX and it's YYY" thread on here, but I haven't found it in my brief and limited time here.

Agree with JP. I've measured a bunch of carry on bags in the last month, and the manufacturer dimensions varied from reality almost every time. Sometimes, they don't include wheels or handles. Even when they say the measurement is all-inclusive they are sometimes wrong.
Had to return a really nice Lat56 bag because the width came in at a hair under 16" vs. the stated 14" - inexplicable, since it was a corner to corner measurement with no wheels or other stuff to confuse the issue. What would be really awesome is a spreadsheet of actual measurements, perhaps with the opportunity for multiple members to record a dimension for the same bag. I suspect even our own numbers might vary a little. Also handy would be sizer results for each bag - airline, degree of fit, etc. Over time, this could be a great resource. I wasted way too much time on hunting for a bag that would meet airline specs and sizers. |

I've never given more than a passing thought to luggage (buy it at Ross or whatever), but now I'm traveling for conferences all the time and I need to show up with suits ready to present. It's shocking how hard it is to find out which bags fit what. Nothing is standardized - it's insane - and pulling out 10 bags at the local luggage store is only so helpful. I think major brands like Briggs and Tumi should be guaranteeing fitment of empty bags in the various airline sizers. |
Why can't Rimowa make something that is 21x"14". Everything in their line is 15 inches or wider, and that technically won't fit any domestic sizer these days.
