Tumi Alpha 2 - >50% off on Amazon

Heads-up - Amazon has the Tumi Alpha 2 International on special for 40% off

They are also offering a further 20% off if you subscribe to one of their newsletters

After both discounts the price comes down from $595 to $285!, plus free delivery if you're willing to wait a week for it (or have Amazon Prime)

Timing was perfect for me - I was just about to pull the trigger on a TravelPro, but decided the Tumi was worth the bit extra.

Cool. So they are selling the Alpha 2 for the discounted price that the Alpha is selling for -- and have brought back their 20% discount?

Anyone know what the difference is between the Alpha (22020) and Alpha 2 (22020-2)?

That may be an error - the pictures still show the older Alpha. That, and there are reviews from 2011 while the Alpha 2 only just came out.

That clearly isn't an Alpha 2. Add it to your cart, and it shows that:

"Tumi Alpha International 20" Zippered Expandable Carry On 022020DH,Black,one size"

What are the differences between the Alpha 1 and Alpha 2?

docbert Feb 15, 2014 4:49 pm

Hmm.. checked my order and it is indeed showing as an "Alpha" rather than "Alpha 2" - despite the original page clearly showing "Alpha 2".

They have a different page also claiming to be the Alpha 2 for the same price, but out of stock.

Mine shipped a few hours ago and is due to be delivered Tuesday, so I suppose I'll see what I get...

Better wheels, newly designed zippers, plastic bumpers and no longer tipping over when you have a bag on the front hook.

I think you'll be disappointed to get an Alpha. Not a bad bag AT ALL, and a great price, but not the new Alpha 2.

Given they have the Alpha 2 for the same price, and given that I did actually order an Alpha 2, one way or another I intend to make sure I get the Alpha 2! One of the joys of Amazon is that their customer service is actually very good in situations like this.

Suffice to say I've taken more than a few screenshots of their website since this was pointed out :)

Okay, that's the biggest concern I have. Thanks!

Edit: Also wondering if I should pull the trigger on this one. I really want the gray/orange one but then maybe that attracts unwanted attention to get my bag stolen :(

I think they will simply offer you to return/refund but i am tempted to take a chance as well.
BTW 20" continental carry on is similarly priced.

Doc Savage Feb 15, 2014 8:15 pm

That would be a great deal at half that price!

It won't matter one bit - the actual order page where you hit "buy" says it is an Alpha, not an Alpha 2. Amazon customer service is indeed good, but they are not stupid.

Yeah. They'll rule it as a mistake on their part and that they'll fix the listing and you can return free of charge. You're not going to magically get an Alpha 2.

TravlnD Feb 16, 2014 4:01 pm

Thanks for clarifying everybody.

I was thinking of unloading my unused Alpha at a loss to buy the even newer Alpha 2 if I could get it at such a good price -- looks like an Amazon error. It would have been an amusing but likely costly mistake had I done so.
