A Better Wallet? - Seriously!
 

I have the usual amount of crap in my wallet, plus much more than the usual number of credit cards. I live in two places and kind of have two separate wallets, one for each place, and the only think I "have" to move from one to the other is my driver's license and my current "go-to" card. But it's quite annoying, as well as having a lot of semi-used cards in a drawer.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a wallet with more than the usual amount of storage, and preferably one that's fairly durable?

There's been this wallet craze on Kickstarter lately, and a couple of people have come out with card only wallets like this. I usually carry some kind of bag with me, so it's easy to stick all of my credit cards in that, so if I need any of them, I have them.

Doesn't seem too durable, but this one is much more durable, just doesn't hold as many cards.

I have the bigskinny (New York version, as I recall) and it's a decent little card wallet in spite of the small form factor. Definitely recommend it to someone who only carries a few cards and ID.

Unfortunately, being such a card 'ho, I couldn't work through the 12 step program and shrink my card stack enough, so I picked up Bosca's Continental ID wallet with a dozen card slots about a year ago. It's a very nice wallet and is wearing well. ^

The whole idea behind "slim" wallets is more of a mentality change than anything else. I've gone to just a simple money clip with 2-4 cards and cash, swapping out the cards, as needed. Generally, it's ID, corp CC, and personal CC. Sure there are some downsides (no receipt storage, for example, and limited number of cards I can carry), but it's worked pretty well over the last year or so.

To the OP, it really depends on what the "usual amount of crap" and "much more than the usual number of credit cards" means. To me, the usual number of credit cards is 2. Sounds like you're trying to consolidate your wallets. Are you a man or a woman? My wife is a fan of the large Coach wallets (or maybe medium - I can't tell from the pictures). They also seem to have some large wallets for men, with multiple interior pockets and accordion-like expandability.

I love my Big Skinny wallet.

The problem with a wallet that has lots of card slots is that you have a layer of leather between every single card. Better to have a wallet with one slot for cash, a single pocket on one side for a stack of cards, and a single pocket on the other side for another stack of cards.

I am a minimalist by nature, but the cold hard truth of manufactured spending is that you have to juggle multiple credit cards at once. There has to be some "regular spend" on all my Manu-cards before I ATM/billpay/cashadvance them out. So I have no choice but to carry around the bunch of them.

Honestly, the effort makes me wonder if it wouldn't be worth it just to carry around ONLY my Ink+, and be done with it.

Very pleased with both based on first impressions. The note sleeve wallet is going to be my everyday then switching to the travel wallet when I need to have my passport with me.

The note sleeve itself is ideal with room for everything - it includes a small coin section. It has a sim-card slot which is pointless for me but might be handy for some.

The travel wallet is certainly my favourite. A passport plus all my cards and notes - and again that pointless sim-card slot. The tiny pen is AMAZING I just wish the note sleeve had one.

I still love my nylon original all-ett from http://www.all-ett.com/ or Amazon. It holds a lot while still being slim enough to fit into my front pocket, which I prefer for security. The nylon starts to wear out after 2-3 years, but they are inexpensive enough to not be an issue.

You can fit 10 cards in this one plus cash and its the slimmest I've found. I've had mine for like 6 months still strong.

FWIW Mighty Wallet has been using the same material, Tyvek, for years. I picked one up for $5 at a local store that had some in the clearance rack and like it because it has a funky retro cartoon design that works in ways as it doesn't really look like a wallet but don't use it all the time the card slots aren't as snug as I prefer. How do cards fit in the slimfold? For $20 I just might give it a try.

Mr Bzbdewd absolutely loves his wallet from Saddleback - the medium bifold I think. I had bought him several others - Coach, Tumi and Ghurka which always ended up wearing out fast (6 months or so) because he carries everything under the sun in them. The Saddleback isn't noticeably larger but it holds more without warping. It took about 6 months to really break in but he's going on 3 years with it and it still is holding it's shape and looks better than ever. The only thing that he doesn't like about it is some of the larger currencies stick out a bit over the top - but that happened in all of his other wallets too.
I have the Saddleback "big leather wallet" which IS big. But I carry passports, several different currencies, a small notepad, and other stuff - so it is perfect. I've had it about 2 years and it looks brand new. It isn't a little dainty ladies wallet by a long shot but for my needs it is perfect. I can also carry it as a clutch if I don't want to lug a purse because once it is snapped closed things within stay put.
