The Planespotter's PHOTO Thread...

What would a Travel Photography forum on a site called FlyerTalk be without a thread for photography of aircraft themselves? I'll start.

PHL - 6/3/08

Happy Planespotting to all, and happy viewing.

Here are from my one poor attempt a year ago at IAH. Rest of the pictures here:

This shot was taken early morning April 29th on UA838 NRT to SFO. It was a Continental flight going somewhere else (EWR, IAH?). They were probably two thousand feet below our altitude and likely traveling with UA838 through the night. Just after this shot we turned southeast down the California coast.

It took me a double-take to realize that was two different photos and not an incredibly lucky shot you got. :D

I had to edit this to make an attempt (and a bad one at that) at saying something intelligent....I thought it was one shot too.

I added an empty line now. ;)

PHL back in January...

I really enjoyed seeing this HP/US plane and its antique paint at SFO a couple weeks ago. :o
[Thanks to MileageAddict for pointing out this is a A319, not a 737.]

:o Thanks, I'm rarely quite sure of what's what. A safety card in the seat back helps.

I look at the winglets (when available) for Boeing 737-x vs Airbus A319/20/21.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but Boeing 737s "always" have no winglets, or winglets that extend above the wing. Airbus A319/20/21 have "mini" winglets that extend above and below the wing.

EDIT: A picture is worth a thousand words --

True. Boeing does winglets that only rise, while Airbus does go above and below, and they are called "wingtip fences".

Wingtips? My favorite is the MD-11. Taken in June 1993 at NRT. More pics during the same IAD-EWR-NRT-HKG trip in this folder: http://rkkwan.zenfolio.com/p756590430

Last time I was on one of those AA MD-11s, I boarded and then had a two hour delay. The captain was kind enough to inform us before we departed across the pond that we shouldn't worry, the fuel system leak had been fixed an all of the Jet-A had been cleaned up.

I went to sleep hoping it was simply a mistake by the fueling truck and they had to delay to double check...
