Here's a dpreview test report, but they didn't measure battery drain on the camera.

Eye-Fi Review

Got mine today. It's quite simple amazing. Photo transfer (8MP photos) is snappy, around 5 seconds. The software is impressive and transfers are completely transparent. $99 very well spent.

Interesting but not really that useful to me personally.

So far I prefer the "upload to PC" part the best. I don't see myself uploading every photo I ever take to my gallery. It's great to take photos and instantly have backups on my desktop...

WiFi upload of pictures - Eye Fi SD card

I saw a Yahoo clip today about a person who recovered her lost camera equipment after pictures of the thieves were sent to her...Camera pics can be wirelessly sent to your home computer, photo sharing site, etc using this SD WiFi product called "Eye-fi".

http://www.eye.fi/products/home/

I wasn't thinking about the product for fear my camera would be stolen but wonder if anyone has used it and what they thought of it for the price...

Thanks in advance.

I know David Pouge did a NY Times review of this a couple months ago. I think this is it - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/26/te...h/26pogue.html

I'm still loving mine. As a Smugmug user, I get free hotspot access (through Wayport) AND Geotagging (based on the access point IP). It's still one of the best products I've purchased for my camera.

Ordered the geotagging one and it arrived DOA. Sent it back on Thursday. :(

Wow. I loved the idea of a thief getting caught as a result of auto-uploaded photos, but I thought the wifi features were on the border of gimmick and useful. But throwing Skyhook in there too is sweet.

Still no CF version, eh?

I have WiFi capability in my Nikon Coolpix S7c. Never used it. Dumping it thru SD card slot is just much faster.

Just came back from Tokyo Sunday and saw the just introduced Nikon P6000 at BIC Camera. This camera has an ethernet port and built-in GPS. There is a portal called www.mypicturetown.com that will upload your pictures once your camera is connected.

The card should work in any CF to SD adapter.

I had Wi-Fi in my previous Nikon, but the Eye-Fi card is MUCH better. First of all, the hassle of turning Wi-Fi on with the Nikon made it nearly unusable, the Eye-Fi just starts uploading as soon as you snap a photo.

It also uploads the photos to my desktop AND to my photo hosting site (smugmug) at the same time. There is no way offloading the SD could ever be faster for me than using Wi-Fi. 10 seconds after I take the photo, it is on my desktop, neatly sorted in a dated folder.
