Yak Hostel in a an outpost called Payang in southwestern Tibet. 4 of us in a room. Electricity from 9p to 1a. Bathroom outside and horrible. Water by request. The owner's Tibetan mastiff lives right outside our room and starts howling at sunrise. 40RMB (US$6) per person, and I think it is overpriced.

Actually, it looks like a very cool, truly memorable experience!

Yes, it was. Here's from another such hostel. Under the Shiu Monastery (Jiwusi) on the shore of Lake Manasarovar. This place is so deserted that our guide had to walk around for 15 minutes to find a human being in the village. Incredibly, he found them, and we got a place to stay and someone to cook food for us. Bathroom is cleaner here, since we are the only guests that night (or week, or month, who knows). But electricity is only from around 9 to 11, supplied by a generator:
