Behind the curtain - more images from the past
Rather than post them in the "beautiful images" thread - because not all of them are beautiful - I'm going to post some more old photos here. These are from the 1970s (mainly 1973-78) from the eastern side of the "iron curtain," a term I never liked very much as it so oversimplified such a big part of the world.
These are from travels (both leisure and work-related) to eastern bloc countries including the DDR, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and three parts of the USSR - European Russia, Uzbekistan and (briefly) Tajikistan (now of course all independent.) I hope they convey some sense not only of the places but also of the people who I encountered on these trips. They were all quite memorable and now, almost fifty years later, I find myself wondering what became of them in the tumultuous years that followed.
The pictures are all scanned off slides, prints or negatives, so the quality is not as good as modern digital images, but hopefully they'll still be effective. Some of these images have been posted before on other threads.

Gardyloo,
Thank you for posting these interesting images of the past (and with narratives) There is nothing like seeing "first hand" & "eye witness" images from you or any FTers. You sure have been to places where I could only dream of! Great work!
