Nikon D3200 with 18~200 VR lens. Problem is the lens zooms out while walking or hiking. Aggravating enough to consider newer VRII or 18~300mm to replace it. I also have the Pentax Optio W80 for the underwater pics and video and when I don't want to lug the Nikon around. When this thread started 4 years ago, I was using a Nikon D80 and Pentax Optio W30. I am considering upgrading to Nikon Df and a new underwater pocket camera with better specs. If I don't upgrade, I will get a 10~24mm Nikon zoom to tote along in my camera gear bag.
One day we will all be walking around recording everything, like the body cameras on cops or the go pro hero when doing something athletic. We will then take snippets of what we want to share from our 24/7/365 constantly recorded life and post these on our social sites to share. The days of being identified as a journalist or tourist as the only ones with cameras is already a relic of the past, since the cell phone tourist (as many of these posts show) is becoming ubiquitous.

It is what I use everyday so it does not seem all that large. I am used to the D4 with a 70-200 2.8G lens. I guess it is a bit on the heavy side

If you worry about having the newest thing in cameras, you'll never have a camera. The Sony A7 platform is great if you don't mind an EVF. I couldn't do it, but some people like them.

A) to go with interchangeable lenses (as lens systems change much more slowly than bodies), and
B) not to go with especially expensive bodies, as these go outdated (hardly obsolete!) much, much quicker
Whether the A7 system counts as "especially expensive bodies" is entirely a matter of the perspective you're looking at it from, of course.

I love my Canon D30 (underwater) camera. It's the perfect travelling camera because it is light, small enough to slip into a pocket and is hardened against dropping, water and sand. It works equally well in and out of the water. I do a lot of boat chartering and it is nice to have one camera that can do it all. It takes HD video as well. Oh, and it is GPS equipped. Canon really improved the optics on this unit over the previous D10 model.

Yeah but you're kind of paying a lot for pretty low-end sensor and image quality.
Guess the sealing costs money so you would figure a camera in the same price range will have better image quality.

@wco81 I agree that the image quality is not comparable to a DLSR but the versatility of this camera is what I love the most. My wife travels with her Canon EOS T6 and it rarely comes out of the case. My D30 is always with us.
Canon has worked on the pricing too. I paid C$750 for a D10 6-7 years ago and the D30 was less than C$300 with many more features and improved optics.

I have not figured out how to operate my present camera.
Was $1400.00 now worth $400.00, and all my lenses will not fit the new one they want to sell me.
Think I will just keep the 7D, and the 120s

Hey guys, new here
I have an A6000 with the two kit lenses for general use and a Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 for wide landscapes and astrophotography.
When I do not feel like carrying the A6000 and the lenses with me on hikes or something I often grab my small RX100, which also does an amazing job.
