Opinion on pets in hotels
Hi All:
Been wondering if there is anyone out there who has had a *bad* experience with a pet friendly hotel (if so where and what). With "pet friendly" getting all the press, some hoteliers tend to forget that there is a segment of the population that doesn't want to smell, listen to, or inhale danders from a dog or cat while on vacation. I am all for pet friendly hotels, as long as their is some separation for those folks who are allergic or aggravated by pets. Any experiences, opinions out there? |
I been on a few, and most of them were OK.
Not in the case of a hotel that I stayed in PHX, it was pet friendly and a smoker's room. The worst smell ever  Not to mention some mysterious stains on the carpet. |
I stayed in Marriott's Towneplace Suites and in Hilton's Homewood Suites, and they seem to have sep. rooms for clients with dogs. Or maybe that depends on location. Never had a problem at either property, and even brought a dog to the Homewood Suites in Seattle, near the Space Needle.

As someone who is pretty pet friendly herself, but who is unfortunately married to someone who is highly allergic to cats, I learned long ago to be very careful about ensuring that any hotel he stays at has a policy of not accepting pets. It's not as if it's a difficult thing to do, as hotels are very upfront about whether they do or don't. If you don't want to deal with animals, it's not at all hard to avoid it, but I'm pleased to see that it is now possible to travel with your pet. I'm sorry, I can't see what the issue here is.

There were fleas in one of the rooms I was in last month on a business trip. I've got nothing against pets in hotels, but the hotel needs to take the extra steps in keeping things like fleas and the smells down. It's not enough to just spray once the pet leaves, you have to do it again once the eggs hatch too.
Personally it's not a huge deal, the room wasn't infested with them, and I'm not sensitive to them, but I know many people who are. |
I avoid pet friendly hotels unless they confine pets to a special section of rooms.

Love dogs (cats are useless animals, IMO ;) ), but don't love them in hotels. I simply don't trust hotels to do the cleaning necessary to ensure that future guests are not bothered by the smell and/or allergents associated with animals.
