Chinese air marshals to be trained in US
BEIJING: For the first time, China will send 18 air marshals to the United States for a two-week anti-terror training as part of the bilateral efforts to enhance cooperation in the fight against terrorism and increase mutual trust, the state media reported on Wednesday.
The first batch of Chinese air marshal forces is expected to fly to the United States next month for the training programme, the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) said.
The training programme marks the first overall co-operation between China and the US in the field of aviation security.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
I'm curious -- has there ever been a hijacking attempt on a Chinese airline? I suspect that if there had been, it may not have been disclosed.
Anyone know?

A few months later, a group of 5-6 people successfuly hijacked a airliner, they killed the captain right away and forced the FO to fly the plane to Taiwan, the plane and the passengers were returned back to China via Hongkong in a few days, however the hijackers received heroes welcome by the taiwanese government, they were awarded with loads of gold as well. Ironically, the ring leader committed murder some 10+ years later in Taiwan and was executed for the crime.

It happened several times, the well known ones are the hijacks to Taiwan.

Chinese Air Marshals are nice guys
In China every flight has one of these guys on them (at least one) and unlike in the US they are not incognito. They all proudly wear belts that say "jingcha" (police) on them and they always sit in the first row of the economy cabin in the aisle seat. They often have the whole row to themselves and on crowded flights if you ask nicely they will let you sit in the window seat of their row with the middle seat empty. Sometimes they even offer without any prompting.
I hope that their US training doesn't teach them to become donkey wipes like some of the US air marshals.

I too never pictured China as needing air marshals; they've never had anything like 9/11, unless the government knows something!

Err...What can the US teach China about controlling it's people? The only thing the US Department of homeland "security" can do is learn from the Chinese. Either that or teach them how to play their PSP while taking a nap.

Muslim separatists in Xinjiang. Some of the splinter groups leadership was with AQ in Taliban era Afganistan, I believe.

I think Chinese Air marshals can teach the US FAM's a thing or two about not respecting people's rights.
But then again, maybe we have surpassed the Chinese in authoritarianism?

It does sound like a "cover story" to me. Wouldn't be surprised if actually the Chinese FAMs are going to be training the US ones. Or maybe they'll just have a friendly exchange of tips on totalitarianism.

Maybe it's the first step in a new out-sourcing plan?

Maybe they'll play their Gameboys, DVD players, and fancy PDAs together.
Or maybe they'll learn which entrees to eat in F.
Or how to dress.
