Photos of AA engine breaking up at LAX hangar

The Los Angeles Fire Department recently posted photos of the damage that the "uncontrolled failure" of a 767 engine caused. This event was reported in early June, at a LAX hangar:

I know I saw something on this subject here on FT a while back, but could not find it via search.

Very interesting NY Times article. I wondered why a DOT report had not been filed, but the article states that "the event might not even qualify as an accident because there was no intention to fly the plane," which helps explain the issue.

Thanks for the link. Is this an official LAFD media site (if so, very cool), or a fan/enthusiast/member (also cool)?

By the URL, one would think it is an enthusiast. If you look at other photos around the site, it would seem to be populated by firefighters.

Yet the blog that the pictures are linked to, is sanctioned by the Department.

Followup question... where is this bird (A330AA) now, and how did it get there?

FYI, the NTSB has made recommendations regarding this engine type, following an investigation of the incident referenced earlier in the thread.
