Senate may ease some bag deadlines

http://www.cnn.com/2002/TRAVEL/09/18...ing/index.html

"As many as 40 airports may be granted more time to meet a requirement that they use bomb detection machines to screen bags. The airports had complained they cannot be ready by the current December 31 deadline."

What's this?? Common sense? Amazing. Too bad the other 400 airports will have to implement that faulty technology by Dec 31.

"Sir, your bag tested positive for explosives"

"I haven't put it in the machine yet"

"Whoops, it's ok now"

"I still haven't put it in the machine."

"Step over here please."

What's faulty about it? These things have been around for years and I've heard some pretty good stuff about them.

They generate so many false positives that they are nearly useless.
