Landings aborted at airport

EIGHT planes were involved in several aborted landings in the wet conditions at Perth Airport on Sunday afternoon.

The problems highlighted the shortcomings of landing aids at the airport, described by many pilots as Australia's most dangerous.

Airlines and the aviation industry have agreed to the installation of a $2 million instrument landing system which will overcome the safety threat.
