CNN: The Concorde May Fly Again.....

Restoring it as a charter aircraft isn't a half bad idea, especially with oil prices where they are, but they better update the seats. No one is going to pay Concorde prices to feel like they are sitting on a CRJ :D

Glad to see the enthusiasm, but it will never happen.

The major obstacle to Concorde flying again with passengers on board is the lack of a type certificate. As far as I know, the holder (Airbus) surrendered the Concorde type certificate. Without a type certificate, it is impossible to obtain the airworthiness certificate necessary for legal operation of an aircraft carrying passengers for compensation or hire.

Airbus has stated that they will not support a re-certification effort, and I doubt any return-to-flight group will be able to muster the considerable resources and money necessary to obtain a new type certificate.

I suppose flight as an experimental category airplane might be possible, but any passenger ever flying Concorde again is extraordinarily unlikely, sad that that is.

I have an old friend from high school who tells of flying the Concorde. He is a practical man who is cautious with his travel funds, as a school teacher he has to be. But listening to him tell his story is great fun.

It's funny, every time I see that little British Airways A319 parked at JFK, at the same jetway where Concorde used to park. How the most elite seat in the sky went from an elegant supersonic jet to something that looks like you could buy it from an Airbus vending machine...

And again... It's a A318
