CNN -- GAO: Newer aircraft vulnerable to hacking
Apparently terrorists are going to plug laptops into the in-seat USB ports and upload viruses, commandeer the plane, or take over.
Funny that Boeing and Airbus NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT. http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/14/politi...ing/index.html Hundreds of planes flying commercially today could be vulnerable to having their onboard computers hacked and remotely taken over by someone using the plane's passenger wifi network, or even by someone on the ground, according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office. One of the authors of the report, Gerald Dillingham, told CNN the planes, include the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the the Airbus A350 and A380 aircraft and have advanced cockpits that are wired into the same wifi system used by passengers. |
You're saying that you know that the GAO report is incorrect and Boeing/Airbus have come up with WiFi/IP technology that's impossible to hack into?
Have you shared your analysis with them? Perhaps they can retract their report. |

I would doubt that the aircraft's internal systems that use TCP/IP are using the same WiFi that passengers use to access the Internet! At least that part of the report is very likely to be wrong/misleading.

these kinds of stories are routine, i guess now coming up again because of some crashes?
arent these kinds of stories always lacking any real factual/contextual analysis? |

Someone says super scary _____ is POSSIBLE. (insert scenario) What they don't say is that scenario is as LIKELY as ________. (insert contextual probability) In this case, the first blank is "coach-hacking a plane" and the second is "lightening hitting the moon". :p |

What they lack is accuracy and a public that is capable of comprehending probabilistic statements. Here is a fill-in-the-blank secret decoder ring for all such articles.
