Despite rather heavily armed guards doing perimeter security, militants got in; guards and at least some airline and or airport staff killed and injured. At least a few planes damaged.

All flights being diverted away from KHI.

GEO TV has live coverage?

Please be vary of news reports. Pakistani news channels are speculating and ill informed. On social media most "news" is based on rumours. Many sharing Google earth pics from 2013 and claiming its latest images.

Is GEO operating on the air still. Two days ago, apparently they were to be suspended or were suspended:

CNN says they got into the VIP area of the airport. That sounds like the part used by senior politicos' non-commercial flights, right?

needroos Jun 8, 2014 3:35 pm

GEO is operating but not available in most of Pakistan. Can be seen over the internet and on subscription outside Pakistan.

The VIP area is the old Karachi terminal. It is also used as a Hajj terminal for pilgirms to Mecca.

So the actual passenger terminal was not attacked.

Indeed. I am told by my relatives in Karachi that GEO and ARY are quite unreliable and are not producing an accurate report of the situation at KHI.

Terror Attack Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan

At least nine people - including two civilians - have been killed after militants stormed a terminal at Pakistan's largest airport in Karachi and tried to seize a passenger plane on Sunday night.
No group has claimed responsibility, but there are fears that the Mumbai-style attack had been launched by heavily armed gunmen linked to a faction of the Taliban.
A group of militants were trying to seize a plane packed with passengers that arrived on the main runway as the shooting was going on around it, according to local reports.

I've got a hiking trip in Pakistan booked for next month. Don't worry, I'm flying into Lahore and out of Islamabad.

JoyRider Jun 9, 2014 1:47 am

I flew into Lahore a few days ago and flying back in a few week...

Fingers crossed the airlines don't pull out :(

Well Peshawar airport has had some cases of mortar attacks before and the gulf airlines have kept flying. With Emirates upping to 6 times a day to Karachi I doubt they will pull out. European carriers pulled out of Karachi after 9/11. I guess the most likely airline to pull the plug is CX.

Anyone know where yesterday's CX flight diverted to?
