Hidden city ticketing advocated in NY Times
May 8, 2011
New York Times Magazine
Air travel remains a necessity, even as it gets ever more expensive. First, the cost of flights, which fell throughout most of the 2000s relative to inflation, is climbing once again thanks to higher fuel prices. And then there are the added fees for everything from checked baggage to those vile croissanwiches.
Well, there’s a way to save some of that money. It’s called “hidden-city ticketing,”

Author argues that while it's a bad idea to do it often on the same airline, it's probably not illegal. Technically.

This is appallingly bad advice the NYT is disseminating. Incredibly, the article is written by polls-and-statistics guru Nate Silver, who has now demonstrated he's not an expert in everything.

Also beware of getting what you wish for: if airlines are forced to allow hidden city fares, that doesn't mean you'll get the same cheap fare for A-B as you do for A-B-C. It means that A-B-C will now have the expensive A-B fare. Too bad for you if you're actually going to C.
