Hacker steals TripAdvisor customer email database
I'm sure a lot of us got the e-mail this morning already.
http://www.securecomputing.net.au/Ne...-database.aspx SC Magazine Mar 24, 2011 11:58 PM Hacker takes off with TripAdvisor's customer email database By Nate Cochran In an email purporting to be from its chief executive officer Steve Kaufer sent to customers today, the site that bills itself as "Most Trusted" said the list was stolen last weekend and that it has since closed the source of the vulnerability. But it did not say what the vulnerability was or what it did to ensure it didn't again leak its customers' personal information. |
Wow, that article, at least to me, is a bit over the top.
They have my e-mail address. So do thousands of other spammers on the planet. Not really sure how changing my password, which Trip Advisor was clear they did not have access to, will help. |
Yes, I received same email from TA CEO but since no action was required as of yet & no surge in spam, not too concerned.
|
Same here. If they were really concerned about me, wouldn't they let me know if my email was in the batch that was stolen? Not that it would matter much, I guess. Just more potential for spam and phishing.
|
Thus far the only spam I can attribute to this event was the e-mail from Trip Advisor.
