USA Today: As oil prices sink, airline profits soar
It’s official. The plunge in fuel prices helped make 2015 the most profitable year for the U.S. airline industry, at least since deregulation in 1978.
Southwest, which capped off the year with a fourth-quarter profit of $536 million, says 2015 was its best year for earnings ever, thanks to full flights,
more seats and cheap fuel.

Looks like AA had the highest profits of any airline ever, and saved $1.1 billion on fuel in 2015:

For all of 2015, American earned $7.6 billion. Excluding one-time items, adjusted profit was $6.3 billion, which Parker, the CEO, said was more than any airline had ever earned.
