Lots of Flight Crew Discussion

There had been lots of flight crew discussion on the topic pre-program -- very interesting.

I didn't catch the beginning, but there was a spot about regional carrier safety on NPR this morning, highlighting Colgan. This was in connection with the PBS show.

It all boils down to FAA corruption, but I'm none too happy with Continental, US Air and United for leading us down the garden path to unsafe flights. So very happy I fly with Alaska and their wonderful Horizon Air!!!

I still don't know how it is legal to have people work 16 hour duty cycles, but only pay them a fraction of that for flying time.

Pay pilots for their crucial duties on the ground, and all time on duty for that matter, and it would go a long way to fixing the problem.

If they changed to pay for duty time then the pay rate would be much lower. The end result (the paycheck) would be the same.

Yes and no. It would make them more sensitive to the time they make their people sit around and thus be a net positive.

You mean the airline with the inability to lubricate jack screws so that planes crash in the Pacific?

The PBS report was very disturbing, frustrating, sad. The worst aspect was the FAA response to what was evident for so long.

I try very hard to avoid all regional carriers but, sometimes simply cannot.
