Man Builds Pan Am 747 1st Cabin in Garage

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1256...99406669.html#

Fliers nostalgic for the golden era of air travel might want to book a trip to Anthony Toth's garage.

Mr. Toth has built a precise replica of a first-class cabin from a Pan Am World Airways 747 in the garage of his two-bedroom condo in Redondo Beach, Calif. The setup includes almost everything fliers in the late 1970s and 1980s would have found onboard: pairs of red-and-blue reclining seats, original overhead luggage bins and a curved, red-carpeted staircase.

My grandparents visited us from India flying Pan Am. That appears to be my only memory of the airline.

Creepy a lot, especially if that is your significant other, or someone you care about.

But, because I don't know him, it's pretty cool.

Oh, and it reminds me a lot like the Trekkies that build Enterprise or Klingon sets in their basements...

Kinda cool...and scary, all at the same time.

Being in LA, I assume he hits "turbulence" fairly often....

Now that he has the publicity, will he remain single?

Two years ago, Mr. Toth, who is single, purchased his first home...
I imagine he's semi-famous within UA for this obsession, but thanks for sharing.

I could envisage him renting the basement for the occasional TV ad job, in addition for having an excuse to ask ladies (?!?) down to his fantasy cabin.

Nobody dare ask: 'is he a FTer'?

Of Pan-Am, he said...

"The brand was so powerful, he says. "They had this uncompromising standard of service."
which I found rather amusing actually.

After reading the article this was my first thought (hope) too. The garage simply cannot exist without a SoCal FT get-together in its future.

We just have to snag him here first before A.net gets him!

It'd be nice, too, to get a management-level UA insider on our side...
