MSNBC Travel Kit: 5 fitness gizmos for athletic travelers
I'm happy with my shoes, clothes, and iPod/iPhone...this might be an interesting gift idea for fitness-focused travelers though! :) - Sportiiiis - GPS sports watch - Hydro tracker GPS - Blue HR monitor - eSport Clip |
Thanks for the link. A few are a bit above my price range for the type of execiser I am at the moment, but do look pretty cool.
Cheers. |

edited to add I found a review (http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/15/fitbit-review/): "spend any time doing things like weight training, cycling, or swimming, and you need to enter them manually -- particularly that last one, since the Fitbit is not waterproof. You could easily spend 30 minutes in here every day logging everything you eat and do" Two of the things that make up 75% of my activities. |

my problem with the fitbit is I can't see how it tracks too well without at least heart rate.

How long every day do you do those two activities? 2 hours? The other 22 hours a day are covered automatically by Fitbit, and then you can make entries for those two hours. But different strokes for different folks. It is not a perfect device, but it is a very nice choice for many people.
Outside of my actual workouts my days are pretty similar. We can make entries for workouts....that was the reviews main complaint it seemed like and would be mine also. Different strokes for sure...I didn't mean any offense. I like the idea of the fitbit but I'll wait until its a little more sophisticated. |

1.5 probably on average each day and up to 6-7 if I'm doing a century + ride. For calorie burn/activity this is the highlight for me and what I'd want to capture.

I often think "if this is what we have now, what will we have in 5 or 10 years?". So I too would love to see the Fitbit more sophisticated, and I am sure it, or something like it, is in the works. |
