Now I'm a little worried. I booked a car with infant seat through Alamo for Sunday (we're flying to IAH for 1 night) and thought that it would save me the trouble of worrying about our very heavy car seat/travel system. Now I don't know. On the 1 hand, if they DO have the infant seat (my son is 3 months) it will be fine, but if they don't, we're stuck. Ugh, now what should I do?

I answered on your other thread, but I just wouldn't risk it. I will freely admit that I am WAY anal about car seat safety, but it's just not worth it to me. Read that blog post above in Eclipsepearl's post from the Delicious Baby blog.

I have had nothing but bad luck with the rental seats. The last one I got in MKE could not even be secured in the car- the seat flopped around. It was a horrible situation. I have brought a Cosco Scenara in the past our our Britax but was traveling alone and didn't know how to carry that and a stroller and a diaper bag, etc, etc so I took a risk for this 24 hour trip- not to be repeated.

I would advise getting a sit n stroll (you can get them on Craig's List if you watch) in this type of situation or taking a risk and checking the seat. Even with the potential for damage to the seat, you would be better off than what you would likely get from a rental company.

Our Scenara was giving to some Indonesians on our last trip to Singapore (because we had finished all the car portions of our trip and didn't want to haul it around). Car seats are generally unavailable in that country. I will most likely replace it before our next trip. I keep thinking about a sit n stroll, they are really ugly, but would be practical for taking on the airplane. I don't like that they don't have a basket though.

Re-enlivening a long dormant thread: Do car rental companies allow you to rent their car seats without renting a car?

Hi. We are travelling to Germany on Monday with a 3 year old and a 5 year old (22kgs+). We are hiring a car. I have had nothing but bad experience with child seats rented from car rental companies so I want to take my own this time. I plan to take:

- a group 1/2/3 child seat for the 3 year old (EC R44/04 compliant)
- a group 3 booster seat for the 5 year old (again, R44/04 compliant).

Does this sound OK? Any advice welcome. THanks
