passport nightmare - is this possible?

We forgot to get a passport for our toddler, so I am going to call those passport expediting places at 9am Monday for a 6pm flight. Is this even possible? I know that they have appointments and can rush stuff in, but can they turn it around in 5 hrs or so?

If I were you, I'd try to do it in person at the Passport Agency - if you are in NY, here's the info:

NEW YORK Passport Agency
376 Hudson Street
New York, NY 10014

Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., local time, M-F, excluding Federal holidays
Automated Appointment Number: 1-877-487-2778

http://travel.state.gov/passport/abo...ncies_912.html

Not sure if they can do it or not, but good luck!

They claim

That you cant even get in the building without an appointment...

Sigh

They're right ... you can't get in without an appointment. I've never heard of a 5 hour turnaround time ... I think 24 hours might be the absolute bare minimum.

But I would get down there when they open at 7:30 am and call on your cell phone from outside to make an appointment. Perhaps someone you speak with will take pity on you. Good luck!

try to call a few passport offices around and see if you can get an appointment.

if not, go through the agents.

Which country are you visiting?

When my wife and I went to the DC office, they did not even check whether we had an appointment or not. However, it did take 2 business days to get the passport. Our flight was in 7 days, though. I don't know whether it would make a difference if you showed them an itinerary for the same day. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try if you have no other choice.

Same day

France... I tried the Norwalk and NYC office lines, no appointments available.

There are passport expediters that say they can do same day...

Good luck ^ I do see these passport agents come into the passport offices
with dozens of applications/passport and pick them up in the
afternoon (first in line)

I try not using them, but that seems to be the only option.

Let us know if it worked out - I'd be interested to know the turnaround time of these expiditers. Good luck!

i dont know if an expiditer can do it with a child. I think that both parents have to appear.

One more thing

If you know someone with an appointment, I believe you can tag along.

Nope... I did it for our infant when he was born by myself (in 2003).

Looks like it can be done - it's in process now. Perhaps someone else will be able to know this is an option if they're as stupid as I was!

The rules have changed. I did it solo for my son's first passport, but for his renewal this year, I had to either drag my husband along or get a special form stating that he granted permission for the passport notarized and bring that along.

He preferred to get the form notarized to spending a day at the post office with me. :D

Has anyone else tried just walking in w/o an appointment in DC or NYC?
