Cool first flight alone - question about FRA transit

Lufthans has very liberal rules for minors so it's time for my 13 y.o. to fly alone for the first time. He has recently moved to Germany so the route is a bit unfamiiar, need some help to get him ready for his Franksfurt connection while travelling from Munich to New York.

LH99 Departing Munich MUC to FRA 9:00 AM - looks likelanding at FRA in terminal 1
LH 400 Departing FRA to JFK 11:00 AM
Today this flight has left from gate C16 while yesterday it left from gate Z52

I recall a messy long line for an additional security check inside FRA last time I was there for transit but I was arriving from outside EU. Is it going to be same thing with this departure after a flight within Germany or no extra checks in FRA?

I assume he would have to pass passport control to leave Europe in Frankfurt. Is this done without exiting the airport? Is it going to be same immigration area for everyone or a special faster one for transit passengers?

Any tips/hints/etc?
