infant in seat or child seat

Hi, All:

I want to buy a seat for my one and a half years old boy. I check the flight price and I am a little confused. I search on Expedia, it has a choice as "infant in seat" which is cheaper than child ticket, but another search engineer, vayama, only has a choice of child ticket. I don't know which one I should buy, any difference between these two? Anyone has a same experience? Also, for infant in seat, do I have to buy a car seat for my infant?

Thanks a lot!

Why don't you buy directly from the airline. If cheaper or the same go for expedia as vayama has terrible customer service.

it's multiple airlines, so I can't buy it directly from the airline. Also, I can't find this choice in the airline's website.Thanks. So you think infant in seat and child ticket have no difference? Thanks

What are the flights/dates you're trying to take? If you don't mind sharing, I'm sure someone here can help you think of another option.

By the way, Expedia should provide you options for children under 2 to sit "In Lap" or "In Seat". If you want a separate seat for your child, choose the latter option.

Thanks for your help. I just want to buy a separate seat for my 18 months' baby. It seems only Expedia(including travelocity) or cheapoair has this "infant in seat" choice. Other websites only provide children's (>2) ticket. My flight is hainan airline from Boston to Beijing and the price is different between these two choices. That's the reason I am curious. Thanks
