Gate pass to pick up unaccompanied minor landing international at LAX from Sydney
My nephew is flying as an unaccompanied minor from Sydney to LA. I have picked up other kids flying to both LAX and DEN from LHR and every time I have waited for the kids on the other side of customs. The airline people have escorted them through immigration, helped them collect their bags, and then brought them through customs.
United is saying that I need to get a gate pass at LAX to meet him at the gate. I called LAX and they said no, that gate passes are not issued for International gates.
So, I was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience collecting an unaccompanied minor at LAX where they were issued a gate pass, and if so, how does that work.
Many Thanks,
Hez

Speaking from the "other side"...
I never handed a UM over to other than one of our airline's ground agents off of an international flight, ever, anywhere. They're escorted through immigration and customs.
Actually, one of the advantages to paying the fee. Those kids go through the fast lane and get help with their luggage.
