I go back for 2 Reasons, 1- they are usually the Cheapest among the Majors and alot of the time even cheaper or about the same as the No-Names

2- Every 16 days gives me a Free 1 Day Rental, which is great when Im gonna be somewhere for a day or 2

a side Pro is that I wont be surprised like at a No-Name of what type of Car Ill get for the Cat that I reserved.

Hate it when I get to the lot of the No-Name and find out that for my Mid-size Reserved they are giving me a Neon, which to most others is a Compact. As for the other majors cant see paying be it Hertz or avis twice what I can pay at Thrifty MCO.

Avoid Paris CDG location, which is off-airport located in a Holiday Inn 5 miles away. Shuttle took forever to arrive to T2 D/E and then stopped at all the other terminals before arriving at the Holiday Inn 30 minutes later. Clerk was on the phone the whole time and then increased the rate because of "airport taxes" even though quote was including all taxes. Had very good experience at LAS though, so will just avoid Thrifty at international locations.

They're cheap. No other reason I can think of.

Although lately I rent from Dollar more than Thrifty, due to Dollar giving Southwest miles and Thrifty not...

Thrifty locations where I have had bad experiences:

LIT - arrived with a reservation but no cars on lot. Had to wait 30 minutes and then received a full-size pickup truck which was the only vehicle they had.

STL - far off airport, slow shuttle service, not real friendly

AUS - the absolute worst. I made a reservation, was on a flight that was delayed. I called the location direct and spoke to "D***", indicated I would be delayed, but I was coming, and to please hold my car until I got there. When I arrived that night, counter person (who has on no name tag) says "sorry, all the cars are checked out, and it's 1 AM so we won't be getting any more back". I told that I had called and spoken to "D***" and he insisted he would hold a car for me. Turns out nameless-counter-person was "D***", and he had no answer for how he could have given away his last car, other than that other people who had reservations had also shown up prior to me, and he couldn't refuse them a car. Nor could he explain how they had more confirmed reservations than cars. Nor could he offer me a free day, or even get me the same rate I had reserved, at another company. I ended up walking over to Alamo and paying MORE THAN DOUBLE the rate I had reserved at Thrifty! I would NEVER in a million years use Thrifty at AUS again!!

Because in the past few years we've rented at RSW, MCO, PBI, EYW and TPA and all have been pleasant, efficient experiences and reasonably priced :)

Thfirty is the worst!

I've had some bad experience with thrifty. the worst one in
London at LHR. Its off the airport and they'll rip you off any way they can.

i've had good experience with Hertz and Budget while renting from
other countries.

MCO

Count me in. Once saw a family of four leave for their Disney cruise. They came back with tans before the shuttle picked me up...

I second that vote for Orlando, by far WORST experience renting a car was at the Thrifty at MCO... whereas FLL was another story, they were actually pretty decent and have alot better service than MCO.

I found LAX OK.

Thrifty=nearly always the cheapest. And for short rentals (1-2 days) they give more UA miles then the others. However its a hassle to claim miles from non-USA rentals...

DEN was a disaster. I waited for three hours in line as they ran out of cars. As the hours ticked on, the line grew and they ended up busing folks at the end of line out to the lot to be processed there. These people ended up getting cars before the people that were waiting at the beginning of the line at the airport. That was several years ago. I wrote to Thrifty and never heard from them. No big deal, I just avoid them now and use Avis.

My greatest number of experiences over the years have been at those two airports. Generally OK with RDU. Not always so happy with BOS, and furious with them a few months ago, when incredibly rude after effectively scamming my inexperienced daughter. (They turned a 25 hour rental into $125, which I vigorously protested through CS and got very substantially reduced.)

Add PHX to the MCO parade.

I'm in the "Blue Chip line"

After 20 mins and the other line is empty. I move over. The guys working it say your Blue Chip "I can't help you. That's only the begining of what was likely my last Thrifty Experience.

The ONLY reason is if the cost is half the cost of the closest competitor. And even then they try to tack on additional charges. I just rented from Thrifty at MDT. The daily rate was $13.90, but after adding taxes, surcharges, concession fees, and something called "daily extras" (at a rate of $12.00 a day), the total zoomed to nearly $33.00!! You can also get FF miles from Thrifty if they are a "participating location," but that is also unpredictable.

edgewood Mar 18, 2006 11:50 am

we just rented for 2 weeks at OGG.

half the price of Hertz, yes its off-terminal but literally 30 seconds away

no problems, no hassles

we've used this location before and they are consistently cheap and nice

can't complain
